REDUCING PLASTIC POLLUTION IN ASEAN COUNTRIES
A Systematic Review of Voluntary and Mandatory Upstream Policy Interventions
PXP Sustainability and the Yunus Thailand Foundation conducted research to assess the current landscape of mandatory and voluntary measures addressing plastic pollution that have been implemented in countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The review focused on the upstream stages of plastic production.
The study applied a systematic literature review process that identified 100 mandatory and voluntary interventions implemented in the ASEAN region between 2017 and 2022. The study evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the interventions and provides recommendations on what could be done to improve their effectiveness.
